The Leeward Islands
The Windward Islands
This colourful region offers some of the best sailing conditions in the world with steady trade winds and tropical sunshine. The choice of sailing yachts is greater here than anywhere else in the world, and not without reason. The cruising grounds stretch more than 500 miles in an unbroken arc of islands.
There are numerous images that can be created of this wonderfully colourful region such as New Years Eve stern-to in St Barts watching the festivities or being anchored off perhaps the pretty green and white beached Grenadine island of Canouan. On Mustique, we can arrange very special accommodation in some of the most exclusive, fully staffed villas available in the Caribbean. These marvellous well appointed homes may be rented by the week and they perfectly complement a week or two spent cruising through the Grenadines.
The Caribbean has three general cruising areas:-
The Grenadines and Windward Islands in the south, the Leeward Islands to the north and further north still the British and American Virgin Islands.
British and American Virgin Islands
The American and British Virgin Islands are the nursery slopes of the Caribbean charter, an enclosed cluster of lush humpbacked islands which cover an area of only 130 square miles and offer some of the most sheltered sailing in the West Indies. Here snorkelling transports the swimmer into a rainbow world of fish, and the scuba diver can feast on the wrecks of ravaged galleons. Easy sailing conditions and short distances from one island to another mean it is an ideal place for the novice - as well as the experienced charterer.
The Leeward Islands
The Leeward Island cover a vast area from Anguilla to Dominica. This fascinating and diverse ground is too much territory to cover in a week. Each island has its own character, gorgeous bays with wonderful swimming and interesting local customs should you decide to explore ashore.
The Windward Islands
The Windward Islands stretch from Martinique to Grenada and are one of the most beautiful areas of the Caribbean. The last links before Trinidad and South America, the Windwards are richly tropical volcanic islands with palm lined sandy beaches and enough activities for a trip of a lifetime. The Los Roques islands are one of the most remote charter areas with the main town only having one shop that is not open every day! |
